Alzheimer’s Society

The Alzheimer’s Society is Bupa’s nominated charity for the 2009 Bupa Great Run series.  They are hoping over 7,000 runners will join their team this year and raise over £1million to help the Society continue to support people with dementia today and fund research to provide hope for the future.

The Alzheimer’s Society has places available in all the Great Runs including the increasingly popular and in demand Bupa Great North and South Runs.

All runners in 2009 are being encouraged to really join in the fun whilst raising money for a great cause by running in fancy dress,  the theme being 60’s, 70’s or 80’s as part of the charity’s Jog Your Memory theme.

Sadly, as many as 1 in 3 people will die with dementia and there are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers expected to rise to one million by 2025.  Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support services and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them.

Alzheimer’s Society provides information and support for people with all forms of dementia and those who care for them.  It runs quality services, funds research, advises professionals and campaigns for improved health and society care and greater public understanding and awareness of dementia.

If you’re looking for a healthy challenge or perhaps you’re already a keen runner visit www.alzheimers.org.uk for more information.
