Graft and glamour..

Another day of hard graft on the site.. my back’s been aching since yesterday but there are no excuses here!!  More of the same – brick carrying, brick cleaning (although there was no dunking of bricks in mud today which more or less confirms my suspicions that it was all just a wind up) and more lifting of very heavy wooden roof beams.  We managed to get them lifted not just out of the truck (a mammoth task in itself) but actually got quite a few lifted up into place so the roof will be on part of the new building in no time.  fortunately the beams were split in half lengthways before lifting them up to the roof – there’s no way they would’ve got up there otherwise.

A little extra glamour at the site today as we had a film crew from an Ecuadorian national TV channel following our progress and also photographers taking pictures for an article in Bupaworld (Bupa’s international staff magazine).  Not sure I was looking my best, unfortunately.  Sweat and dirt had taken their toll, and my hairdo had been completely destroyed by wearing the hardhat!!

Slightly worryingly, the children’s play area is sectioned off in the middle of one of our work areas, so it was nice to watch them playing on their swings and slides during their school break while we were working.  I had to protect some very small girls who were being chased by small boys making fearsome growling noises.  So I growled back – while the girls clung to me hiding behind my legs.  Very cute.

There’ll be more of the same tomorrow, no doubt – there seems to be a never ending supply of bricks as they continue to demolish the old derelict buildings ready to be reused, so I’m off to relax for a while and get an early start ready for tomorrows early start.
